Auto burglars find apartments to be good hunting grounds
Other Issues, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Apr 14, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Auto burglaries are "absolutely" on the rise in Mountain View, police say, especially in the garages of apartment complexes. Another such crime was committed late last week, with valuables taken from three cars at a complex on the 1600 block of Villa Street.

So, if I shot a burglar breaking into my car, could I say the he invited the bullet?

"When leaving such items out, Wylie said, "You are essentially doing a disservice to the rest of your apartment community. You are inviting [burglars onto your home turf.""

What a SILLY SILLY comment by the police department to say....

It's true, though. I've lived in the same place in MV for five years, never had a problem at all. I never leave stuff in my car at night. But a few weeks ago I left a bag of stuff for Goodwill in the back of my car, and would-be thieves smashed my back window, but luckily because it was right outside my house and I was awake and out there immediately, they ran before being able to take anything. There's no excuse for not being street smart.
