What's going on? Is it the economy?

It's a poorly designed rail system.

I think it is high time that solid full length barriers are being installed at the train crossings to make it impossible for people to enter the tracks when a train is approaching. Hundreds of our kids are crossing these tracks daily on their way to school and they need to be protected.Enough has happened and it is high time that we are investing in our children's safety.

Well, growing up between Ortega and Showers, suicides were quite common. My neighbor shot himself with a shotgun just before graduation from Cal. My other neighbor overdosed on a cocktail of drugs. Hearing sirens all the time, I usually jumped on my bike and rode to the tracks to check out the scene and saw my first bloody body near Del Medio. As a paperboy, a young customer of mine living in the ComStock apartments put a plastic bag over his head. I swear, I always delivered his papers on time.

For most, I myself feel this way too at times, no one cares! No one gives a damn about any one else. Its not the rail system or lack of solid barriers, but the lack of local mental health care facilities, education and easy access to phone numbers when life seems impossible. How much would it cost Caltrains to stick some signs in the ground advertising Suicide Prevention Hotline numbers?

I'm wagering a few more deaths will occur along Del Medio Way. Would be nice if someone just tagged the buildings and fences with Suicide Prevention phone numbers. How many victims would have their cell with them at the time of death?

I hate people that find that they need to end their life in such a public display. Is life really that bad. If it is wake up and make some changes....ask for help. Talk to someone. Just don't sit on the track in front of my train and delay me from getting to work. My day was going great until you put your problems down on the tracks.

In response to USA. Thank you for your sensitivity! I am happy for you that you have no other worries but to get to work on time.

Dear USA,

one cannot help but admire your work ethic. It warms my heart to think that there are people like you in this world, people who put the desire to make money above the pain and suffering of others. Maybe we should have a "suicide park" or something where people can go kill themselves in one spot complete with body bags and such so as to create as little inconvenience as possible to the living. The problem with people who commit suicide is that they put their selfish desire to end their pain and suffering above the needs of people like you and me who just want to work and do not have the time to stop and wonder why people would kill themselves.
