Council slashes Rengstorff project

The City Council came close to rejecting a proposal for high-density affordable condos at a study session Tuesday night, but instead mustered support in a 4-3 straw vote to cut the project nearly in half.

To whom it may concern:

There are well-used pedestrian crossing signals half a block from this site at Montecito/Jewell. Yes, Rengstorff is a busy street, but it will remain busy regardless of what happens with this site.

And the broken, uneven sidewalk currently at the site is more of a hindrance to pedestrians than the lack of a planting strip. But a planting strip can be included in the plans for any new development, so the current lack of one is irrelevant.

Please focus on real issues when discussing potential construction projects.
