Green Eggs and Google

The estate of Dr. Suess reportedly supports Google's plans to make millions of books available online.

To lay out how it will pay for the books, Google is trying to strike a deal with authors and publishers in court. Comments on the proposed settlement are due next week.

As the San Francisco Chronicle points out, just like Dr Suess' Green Eggs and Ham, authors might like the plan if they just give it a chance.

But a growing number of opponents reportedly do not like the deal "in a box, with a fox, with a mouse, in a house, here or there, or anywhere" no matter how clever the public relations coup is.

There are also a number of supporters of the book deal who say it will allow access to books that were previously only available to the "privileged few," such as those attending universities. Those who are blind and disabled will also have wider access to books, supporters say.
