CLARIFICATION:

Morné du Preez, Rosemary Stasek's husband, sent the Voice an e-mail offering this clarification on the cause of Stasek's death:

Rosemary was diagnosed with MS earlier this year, but had been struggling with a diagnosed lesion as early as May 2007. But this had not developed into MS until her diagnosis in March.

The MS progressed very quickly even though she was on very good medication, which was being flown in from the U.S. on a monthly basis. The MS caused problems with Rosemary's respiratory system and led to heart failure.

This did not have to do with bad health care. Rosemary was in a German clinic at the time of not feeling well and was transferred to the NATO ICU unit at the French Military hospital by an international ambulance service after she started deteriorating.
