When 'Donors Choose,' students win
Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Sep 15, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Smartphone based tablet computers from China are now selling for less than $100. Marvell is supposed to market one in the US this fall that the One Laptop Per Child Foundation is adopting. These could be used to word flash cards, math facts, and writing practice.

It would be fantastic if Mountain View residents used Donors Choose to fund projects for classrooms, particularly in high-poverty schools. The district's schools have very uneven technology resources because in wealthier neighborhoods the PTA raises money to spend on classroom materials and technology.

Unfortunately the district only supports Apple computers, not PCs or new options like low-cost tablets.
