Test scores don't tell the whole story
Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Sep 18, 2010 at 8:16 am

As parents who send our kids to public school in Mountain View, my wife and I appreciated the two recent articles in the Voice about the Mountain View Whisman school district.

Thank you Jim for this informative and thoughtful guest opinion. Too often, new articles about education overemphasize the negatives and shortcomings of our schools, and do not provide the broader context like you have. Overall, I believe Mountain View schools are excellent. Most children who attend our schools get a very good education. While we could do a better job of educating English language learners, we should not lose sight of the larger picture and great work our teachers and school administrators our doing.

That's funny, I always thought it was all about Ghysels as being responsible for making the schools better!

Goldman has been on the job all of two month, so a little too early to be bringing him into the argument in the second sentence!

This is all just more rah, rah, rah and organized spin.

Well done, Jim. Good to see that there are engaged parents in our district interested in a factual look at the strong performance of our local schools.
