Crash and Need for Traffic Light at Villa and Mariposa
Other Issues, posted by Pieter Kark, MD, a resident of the Shoreline West neighborhood, on Nov 22, 2011 at 6:53 pm

At about 6:20 this evening, an SUV entering Villa from Mariposa and a sedan traveling toward Shoreline on Villa collided. The SUV continued over the bushes and into the parking lot of Avalon Mountain View Apartments at 1600 Villa St., opposite the end of Mariposa. The sedan, its front staved in and steaming, horn blowing, stopped at the curb, partially blocking Villa. Police and firefighters suggest there were no major injuries.

The time has come for a light at the intersection, inconvenience though it would be for residents of Avalon such as my family and myself. There have been increasing numbers of close calls at the intersection in the past couple of years, and particularly in the past few months. Hedges and parked cars block the view of Villa in both directions for drivers on Mariposa. Parked trucks and buses block the view of Villa for drivers exiting Avalon. My family and I have been in several close misses; we have seen many others.

poor drivers have accidents.

Tonight there was a crash on Middlefield--right in front of Cubberly. One car ended up going through the iron fence and into the yard of a house across from Cubberly. The other car had been pulled off into the Cubberly parking lot.

There's been a light there for decades
