Other Issues, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Dec 9, 2011 at 10:25 am

City officials have been talking about creating a Mountain View shuttle service for years, but on Tuesday City Council members raised the stakes, asking city staff to study possible routes and funding sources.

Why doesn't Google pay for it?

"Caltrain, which funds most of the cost of a $200,000 shuttle to and from downtown Palo Alto, which is free to users."

What? The Caltrain station in Palo Alto is about 50 feet from downtown. They need a shuttle to downtown about as much as MV needs a shuttle from our train station to Castro Street.

"If there are funds available, let's access them," Macias said.

How about saving those funds for a rainy day or using them to pay off debt?

"The service could be funded by Mountain View companies, a parcel tax, or even Caltrain"

You must be kidding me, another parcel tax, for this? That is really bright, NOT!!

This is the worst idea I have heard, what is the matter with taking the bus system that is already in place? Oh I forgot, you need to pay money to ride on them.

I guess like all democrats and Unions have to say to this and all other expenses, "the tax payers will pay for it".

Could anyone out there explain to me, why if additional vehicular mass transit options are needed in Mountain View, why adding a handful of new VTA routes wouldn't do the trick? There is already a satisfactory digital payment system in place for the other MV transit options like Caltrain and the Light Rail, ClipperCard, which presumably could make corporate subsidies for riding the new routes very easy to do.
