A year ago, local auto shop owner Tom Mertl announced his plan to truck a 1930s prefab diner to Mountain View from Massachusetts. The diner has arrived, and a long restoration has commenced.

The city of Mtn View has allowed Old Middlefield-- a gateway into town-- to turn into an absolute dump! Massive truck tires as permanent advertising, actual junker car lots exposed to the street, etc, etc. It is an embarassment. I cant think of a city on the Peninsula that has let a major thoroughfare turn into such a pathetic mess.
This is not a reflection on the business mix on Old Middlefield. It is about the city's decision to basically have no rules about outside storage, adversting, etc.
If the guy putting this diner together has standards, this should be cool. If not...
