If you want your kids to participate in sporting/performance events that involve distant travel, you fund it yourself.

Participating in sports and performance art themselves have great benefit for kids and can teach valuable skills. But you don't need to compete at higher levels that involve significant travel expense to do that, to provide those benefits. If you *want* to take it to that level, knock yourself out.... on your own dime.

Where is Los Altos High School located? Let the rich people there donate funds.

Wow. You people are bitter and so negative. I guess no one ever taught you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. They are just kids trying to fund-raise just like any other school/sport activity. Plus they are doing something good for the environment. Also, half the kids that go to LAHS live in Mountain View and not all of them are rich. I will be bringing over some items. Good luck to the team!

Perfect timing! I have a bunch of stuff to get rid of. Thanks.
