Imagine how the guy who hit her feels right now. I can't imagine.

He probably feels like a murderer, which may not be far from the truth. Was he just not looking where he was going or something?

There are 3 "get out of jail free" cards that drivers can play in cirucmstances like this:

1) I didn't see him/her

2) The sun was in my eyes

3) He/She jumped in front of me/came out of nowhere

Considering that the victim was 80, number 3 is not likely to work. Has the driver played either card 1 or 2?

Why do you all assume that the driver was a man?

KNTV just reported another Mountain View woman died on hwy. 85 in Mountain View Saturday evening at 6:30pm, possible victim of a hit and run. So many this week. I've witnessed too many crashes the past 2 weeks. Please stay off the phones and watch the road.

Why is the victim's gender or age of headline importance?

The important point is that the victim was a Pedestrian on a Sidewalk, killed as result of a driver (probably) denying the idea that you are entering the street as soon as you begin crossing the sidewalk, and that you must stop before entering the street.

Let's hope we, as drivers and as pedestrians, can all learn something from this.
