Packard Foundation opens new, eco-friendly headquarters

New, eco-friendly headquarters for the David and Lucile Packard Foundation reflect environmental values of the Packard family going back decades, their daughter said. Susan Packard Orr opened the 49,000-square-foot building in downtown Los Altos Friday.

$477/ft not including land cost. Ouch.

"aesthetic touches...boosted the price to $37.2 million" That's an extra $14 million for "aesthetic touches". Double ouch. That pushed the cost to $755/ft.

$37.2 million for 110 staffers is $338,181 per person.

So that's what life is like for the these Wall Street one percenter types.

It's a beautiful building, and I applaud the fact that they've created landscapes around the building rather than viewing green space as a waste of development opportunity. I just hope enough rainfall continues to fill those underground tanks.
