It is not possible for me to describe my opinion of this specific letter, and the overall attitude of NASA, in terms suitable for a family forum.

Let's not pass the buck here. The Navy built Hangar One. The Navy used it for decades. The Navy polluted it for the most part. And so the Navy should step up, show the dignity and showmanship it's known for and assume the responsibility of cleaning and preserving Hangar One as the historical (and highly visible) landmark it is.

Poor NASA had the base shoved into their hands when the Navy left, and shouldn't be responsible for any damage or costs caused by the latter. It has enough problems trying to conduct the missions Congress requires of it while having it's own funds cut year after year at the same time.

Where the heck are our elected Federal officials? I'm talking Senators and Congress people, including Nancy Pelosi. Sure seems to me like they all figure this is a safe Democratic area, so they don't need to bother getting some federal funding to support a truly distinctive and important historical landmark.

Every once in a while someone pays lip service to Hanger One, but none of them has made it a priority (over 10+ years including when they totally controlled Congress and White in 2009-2010). If you can't get something basic like this handled, how can we trust you with anything?
