So thankful for his service, but curious; is this the first or only Mtn. View native who has died in the Iraq war?
Umm Post Office is in major Red ink and Congress is a bunch of Partisan DO Nothings.... I would think Eshoo should spend a little more time on fixing our country rather than symbolic voting moves...
I do agree MV fallen soldier should be honored...just not use the precious congressional level that shold be fixing our country...
1. How much does will this cost?
2. Will Anna be paying for this out of her own pocket? (Including paying for the time spent to pass it)
Its always a nice idea/practice to remember those in the armed forces who have died and/or fought for the rights to freedoms that the rest of us enjoy. However, with that in mind, would it not be more appropriate to name the post office in memory of ALL veterans? But why change the name (is there a specific name anyway?) of the post office? There are a number of war memorials in town that already pay tribute to the fallen soldiers of the community. Just a thought...
And what about other deserving people, perhaps the unsung heroes of our personal lives and the community? This soldier was obviously "sung" with all the accolades, ribbons, awards, and so on. I agree with all of the writers above: Let's not. Thank you.
Rome is burning...
Anna Eshoo is spending her time on this and not trying to fix our federal deficit, including a bankrupt postal service - Unbelievable!
As a previous writer commented we have memorials to our fallen. I would prefer to see more emphasis placed on the true meaning of Memorial and Veterans day where people like Lt. Kenneth Ballard are properly honored.
How much will this cost? The post office will hang a photo of this young man and a plaque telling his story in the lobby. You can estimate how much that will cost.
For someone who is in to monikers, I'd think you could do a little better than that.
With the Postal Service cutbacks, it could become the SFBA DEAD LETTER office...
The way things are going in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and the rest of the Middle East, we will soon be naming postal boxes after the fallen....
Perhaps this initiative is the best that Ms. Eshoo (who turns 70 in December) can do (other than blindly follow the Democratic Party voting line in Congress.
It is time for Ms. Eshoo to move on.
How about voting to bring back the remaining soldiers to the land of the 21st century?
If this is the best that Anna Eshoo can come up with, then she needs to go. She's been in DC far too long.
This is exactly what's wrong with the country. Our representatives are busy coming up with stupid stuff like this while, as someone said, Rome is burning. Thanks for reporting this news item. It's insignificant yet speaks volumes about the lunacy we have to deal with. Those in power resort to distractions like this when they don't have any hope of doing anything better anymore.
Which "Post Office?" The Moffet Field location? Downtown? Nob Hill? (I doubt it).Or the Miramonte location?
The article says "...a MV post office.....". It just makes sense to know which one. Or is it Congresswoman's choice?
I, too, am thankful for his service but question who the heck came up with this idea? Please, Anna, stop wasting YOUR time, and OUR money!
Is this the best way for our Congress to spend it's time?
I can understand that it may be political suicide to vote against, or not support, an effort to honor our fallen Military members, but there are more important issues to fight for.
Don't miss out on the discussion!
