Which Browser do you like?
Hey Tech!, posted by Angela Hey, Mountain View Voice Blogger, on Oct 6, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Do you like to browse the web on your mobile phone, your laptop or on a desktop computer? Which browser do you prefer?

I'd like any new ways in which you browse the web, especially with browsers that come from Mountain View companies like Skyfire, Google or Mozilla (Web Link).

Also I'm interested in hearing from any Mountain View companies that are developing apps based on browsers.

For more info see last Friday's (Oct 3rd 2008) Hey Tech! column on browsers (Web Link).

I haven't used the Chrome browser by Google .. is it good? Can anybody tell me if I should bother?

Thanks.

Desktop/laptop: Firefox! For many reasons.

Chrome is a mess and was released too early. It is very "beta", indeed. When I say "mess", I am referring to the bugs, particularly relating to Flash. It's ironic that browsing YouTube with Chrome is such a miserable experience, given that Google owns YouTube!

Mobile: Opera Mobile and SkyFire. I think Skyfire has a lot of promise; I look forward to the next release.

Shame on Google for releasing another browser onto the community. Every web company's QA costs just jumped a notch. Google has a history of rewalking the same path that has been walked by so many in the past, but this is just plain irresponsible, even for an advertising company.

Anyone tried the Flock browser? It's fun if you are a big social networker as it lets you get information from sites like Facebook really efficiently. I wouldn't use it as a main browser, but as a way to see multiple social networks it is worth trying.
