Car jumps curb, hits man on California Street

If the incident took place in Mountain View, wouldn't it be California Street, not Avenue?

The police aren't arresting the driver because he wasn't drunk? Seriously? It's not a crime to damage property and nearly kill someone with your car?

Is there any update on the victim that was hit. And is the guy that was driving in jail?

Is the driver a police officer, or a member of the city council or other luminary? I cannot imagine why he otherwise would not be arrested for this horrific crime. It isn't like the MVPD to exercise such restraint.

"horrific crime"? It an accident. It might not have had the happy ending like the Oscar Grant case, but it is hardly a crime let alone a horrific one. Also, look at the picture of that beater truck. Does that really look like something a VIP would drive?

Police tell me that the victim is expected to live, but there are no updates on his condition.

As for the driver, police say they are awaiting blood tests that will determine whether he was under the influence of anything. Police say they cannot release his own explanation of what happened.

Yes, it is a horrific crime, accident or not. You can get arrested for cleaning your gun if you happen to kill someone in the process. I would bet that this young man's family believes that a crime has been committed against him.

Affluent people can (and often do) drive beaters. That's kind of irrelevant.

Remember, this is the MVPD, the people who like to break into private homes and club, taser, and arrest residents for making too much noise. I don't know about you, but I'm fine with the police ignoring the party people and instead going after the dangerous drivers.

questionable, have you ever been on a 4-hr ride along with a Mountain View police officer? If you have, it would be interesting to hear your comments on that experience. If you haven't, I highly recommend taking advantage of this civic opportunity. It may give you another perspective on how MVPD handles different incidents... or it may not.

I agree with you that the victim and his family deserve due process of the law. I'm willing to wait until MVPD completes its investigation to see whether the driver is charged with a crime or not. I think there are several different ones that could apply, depending on the circumstances of the accident.

It's been my experience that the MVPD has some unusual biases.

That said, it's about time we all heard what happened here and whodunnit.

Why so much secrecy?

What on earth does riding around in a police car have to do with anything? We've all heard of cases in which the MV police have arrested and inflicted injury on residents who were on private property and not threatening anyone. But in this case, the man is apparently free to continue driving until...he runs into someone else?

Why has this man's name not been disclosed? I agree, this incident reeks of inside connections to me.

I hope the young man's condition is improving.

MVPD is a joke. They hire inexperienced "Blue Shirt" CSO's to be there eyes on the street. And these wannabe Blue Shirts will call in anything they see to make their "First Collar" and show the "real" Cops they can do the job too. These Phony Blue Shirts are untrained in the field of Police work and know nothing more than the parking laws around town. I was minding my won business at my house loading me camping gear into my truck before a trip when a Blue Shirt drove by and observed me putting an unloaded BB Gun in bed of my truck along with my coolers and tents etc. And proceded to park around the corner and follow me back to my job and call the MVPD, Sunnyvale PD and Highway Patrol to draw me down at gun point in front of my work and take me into custody like a Felon. I have no police record I did not threatin this CSO I didn't even look at him... but he called it in cause he thought a home invasion robbery had just taken place even though he saw me loading camping gear in a truck. He thought he was getting his first collar... very unprofessional for someone who has no real police training. When the real cops showed up they looked at the CSO like he was a f'ing idiot... and he was... another example of MVPD misuse of resources and having untrained people on the street....

I've witnessed MVPD watch fights on Castro street and not arrest anyone of attempt to break up the fight and just let it play itself out. And then step in and tell everyone to leave. MVPD is scared of guys who are bigger than them and cannot control what is happening in their own city. They don't do anything cause there are to many witness'. They wait till they go on that one on one call and thump you in your own drive way... or in your house... and it's your word against theirs... MVPD is a joke !!
