Commission shelves fee for single-use bags

Before county residents are asked to spend a quarter for every paper or plastic shopping bag, the Santa Clara County Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission has recommended that a public education campaign be enacted first.

For about 3 years I've been using canvas bags to carry my groceries. I've had to train myself to take them when I go into the store. Something must be done to educate people to do the same. Too many bags litter our waterway and other places and cause harm to our environment

I carry bags in my vehicles but usually forget to take them into the stores. It is a hard habit to get into. Maybe I should tape one to the dash as a reminder.
