LAST FRIDAY, in the print edition's "Seen Around Town" section, we ran a picture called "Fiery Sunset." It showed a blazing sky against a black silhouetted foreground, with a caption claiming the shot had been sent in by Mountain View resident Kathryn Carpenter.
"This is the view from my front yard looking across the street at sunset on Nilda Avenue," Carpenter wrote. "It looks like there is a fire or the sun is rapidly approaching the Earth." (To see it online, check out our pdf version of the print edition; Seen Around Town is on page 6.)
Turns out, though, that we had the wrong photo in place that day. Carpenter's photo had inadvertently been replaced by another, older photo of a blazing sky against a black silhouetted foreground.
"Kathryn Carpenter will be very upset about her 'Fiery Sunset' photo in last week's Voice," wrote Barbara Gordon. "It was not her photo. It was my photo that you used in the April 18, 2008 issue of the Voice titled 'Fiery Sunrise.'" Ooops.
This week's edition clears the whole thing up, and that is more or less that, although now I can't get that plaintive song out of my head: "Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play?"
As always, any and all readers who'd like to see their photo from around town published in the Voice's print edition can send it to me (editor@mv-voice.com) as a jpg attachment, and I'll gladly run it.
