Palo Alto has many such tunnels-- has anyone from the city been in touch with PAPD to see if these safety concerns are real or not?

Palo Alto has one really old pedestrian tunnel under El Camino between Page Mill Road and Sheridan Avenue. It has been closed for years due to safety and vandalism concerns. It also doesn't meet ADA requirements.

I think a new tunnel under Central Expressway could still be feasible. I would use it if it were built. We currently cross on our bikes at the light just north of there. Today my son didn't stop early enough and a speeding car honked at him. I think it is a dangerous crosswalk. Cars really speed by only inches away from the sidewalk ramp.
