Google Book Search deal under fire

Google is under increasing scrutiny for its plans to publish books online as a lawsuit settlement with authors and publishers is under court review.

Google defended the deal and explained its benefits on its public policy blog today.

Meanwhile, bloggers are criticizing Google's efforts to commoditize and control books. The justice department has opened an anti-trust inquiry into the deal, the New York Times reports.
