Why didn't you do a story on the fiasco at Shoreline for the

Food Network event - was it because it wasn't as sensational

as the Old School concert, was it because you didn't want

the residents to see that this happens at other concerts?

Mary,

Enlighten us -- what was the fiasco? We didn't attend.

Great, another smart alec remark.

Anyway, this is certainly newsworthy, though I'm sure you'll agree that long food lines and a woman yelling in the barbecue brisket booth is not so important as six people being stabbed. The two stories are not comparable and to pretend they are would be to belittle the violence at the Old School Fiesta event.

Some people may think violence is "sensational" -- if they do I can't help that. But it's still and always news.

So, no conspiracy here. We just hadn't heard about it, if you can believe that.

wow! you're the editor? with the 'smart aleck' remark.

nice!

little touchy there aren't you Don Francis?

just because someone pointed out to you that news on Shoreline

wasn't covered doesn't mean YOU have to get 'smart alecky' about it.

i think it should have been covered in the Voice but if you didn't

attend oh well and from what you're saying you didn't attend the Old

School either but reported on it - what gives?

Stanley and Mary,

It's simple: I believe that people should be civil and respectful when communicating with strangers -- even with the editor -- on Town Square. That means leave alone the sniping and the sarcasm.

I'm not going to remove every little snipe (if I did I wouldn't have time for anything else). But I also don't have to smile and say thanks every time it's directed at me.

I think people are emboldened by their anonymity here, and feel it's ok to blow off a little steam in this way. I disagree. And if I see smart alec remarks (also known, more pointedly, as smart-assed remarks) along the lines of "oh i didn't realize you attended the Old School Fiesta," maybe you'll hear from me about it.

Occasionally, when these comment threads get too personal, I set them to "registered-only," which requires commenters to register before leaving remarks. It straightens up the discourse every time, and there's no mystery why: a little accountability goes a long way.

Chill out Don Francis - you are taking it a little too personal.

Hey, Don, when I saw the Dead play a few weeks ago, Bob Weir was out of tune. STOP THE PRESSES!

Keep up the good work, and kudos for not taking abuse from anonymous wise asses

wow! you people are brutal - so you are mad because a resident called you out for not reporting another incident at Shoreline

and you take offense by being rude back?

and by the way i don't think mary was being rude i think she was

just stating that she did not know you did or didn't attend either concert. get a grip Don Francis

Posted by Carolyn, a resident of the Shoreline West neighborhood, on Jun 17, 2009 at 11:15 pm

mary = stanley = rob?

What a tragedy, people had to wait on long lines and complain before getting refunds. TOTALLY the same thing as 6 people being stabbed.

I'm sorry but isn't the Voice a source of Mtn. View news.

Why get upset at someone who pointed out another incident at Shoreline? Was it because it wasn't racial and that's all you report?

or was it because it was silly old food network.

Either way your paper is to inform the citizens of the going-ons in

Mtn. View but I guess since you're the editor you get to pick and choose. So everyone clam up and don't ask sir Don Francis about another story again or he'll set "registered only" and hear

only nice things.

Carolyn,

You're exactly right about the different posters being the same person. People don't realize that I can see posters' IP addresses. Except for Carolyn and eric, every comment on here is coming from two computers.

mary = stanley = gil, and

rob = alex

I suspect that all five aliases are the same person (on two computers), since he or she has the exact same message, writes the same way and is similarly unable to spell my name.

Posting under multiple aliases is a violation of our terms of use, which is why I'm closing this comment thread. Any further messages from either IP address will be deleted.

Sorry. This topic has been locked and no further comments can be posted.
