Right Lane forces you into Nob Hill parking lot at Grant Rd!!

Original post made by Frustrated, another community, on Sep 17, 2010

Who designed such a poor merge? Coming off rte 101 onto 237S at rush hour, it is impossible at times to move into the center lane which is backed up with a long line of cars. If you slow down and try to merge, then cars in back of you beep because they want to turn right. So you are forced to move forward and pass thru the intersection still in the right lane.

The right turn only lane into the Nob Hill shopping center was in place long before 237 was completed (the late 1990's) and became a main thoroughfare. For those of us who live in Mountain View, and do our shopping at the Nob Hill center, the right only lane is indispensable. Unfortunately, as you point out, drivers are rude and out of control. They would rather run you down than yield or help out another driver. But please remember that Grant Rd. is within city limits, and this shopping center serves many local neighborhoods.

NW Neighbor: Thanks for the information. As a newer resident, I didn't know 237 was completed the in late '90s. Interesting! That makes sense that Grant Road was designed as so, but perhaps it's time for an update. As I get to know this area, I find many spots where the old, more rural Santa Clara County has an awkward fit with the newer, more populated Silicon Valley. I am not against the Nob Hill center at all, and shop there from time to time myself. All I ask is for some courtesy out there on the roads, especially when put in disadvantageous situations like that.
