The City of Mountain View's Technology - Where Will It Be In 25 Years? Have Your Say

Original post made by Angela Hey, Mountain View Voice Blogger, on Mar 9, 2011

[Web Link Daniel DeBolt's article] on the City of Mountain View's technology goals gives us an opportunity to envision how a city famous for breakthrough innovations can chart its future.

Do you use [Web Link the City of Mountain View's website]? What do you like about it? How can it enrich the lives of Mountain View's citizens, visitors, employees and workers? Which city websites do you like and find useful? What features should a town website support, and what is best done by other sites?

What about plans, permits, parks and people? How would you use technology to help streamline processes, reduce costs and generate income for the city?

What part do mobile and wireless play? Did you ever try the "Ask Mountain View Mobile" App by Comcate - does anyone use it? Is it useful for you? I've never needed to use it, but maybe you've used Ask Mountain View either on a phone or on the web and have a great story to tell. Are there other Apps that would be useful? Websites need to work well on mobile phones - no Flash please! What about the town's pioneering free WiFi, thanks to Google? Should that be enhanced?

Successful Internet developments have originated in Mountain View. In twenty five years we've gone from Sun workstations to Android tablets.

What technologies do you think would be useful to the town in twenty five years - wearable devices, super-fast networks, smart transportation systems? Should we be looking in Google and Intuit labs for answers? As fuel costs rise and the population ages what should the town be doing with technology? Let us all know by commenting here.
