Bye Bye Backyard, Hello Mountain View

"There is no back door," I told her.
"Well, how do I get to the backyard?" Josie asked.
My husband, Norm, and I exchanged glances. Both of our hearts broke a little.
It was time to tell Josie and her little brother, Owen, that our new home didn't have a backyard. We'd been dreading the conversation from the moment we decided to move.
We knew that moving from Morgan Hill to Mountain View would require a considerable downsize in living space. For our children, the biggest sacrifice was going to be losing their big backyard and their very own swing set.
But part of the reason we moved is because we wanted to stop living in our backyard. We wanted to show Josie and Owen more of what the Bay Area has to offer.
Instead of spending our first day in Mountain View unpacking boxes, we decided to show Josie and Owen around the neighborhood..We went for a walk and met our new neighbors. We found two parks just minutes from our doorstep.
There were so many new places to explore and so many new people to meet. That backyard didn't seem so important any more.
Suddenly, we heard the faint chime of the Light Rail getting closer. My husband and I exchanged smiles. We were saving the best for last.
Josie and Owen turned around just in time to see the Light Rail stop in front of our new townhome. "A train! A train!" Josie and Owen screamed as they watched in amazement while people got on and off.
"Can we go on it?" Josie asked.
"Sure," Norm said as he picked up our children and started to run. I quickly followed. And together we got on a train without any idea where it was headed.
