Teen recants sexual assault story
Around Town, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Oct 21, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Mountain View police said that a 16-year-old girl who told officers she had been sexually assaulted in Whisman Park in late September has recanted her story.

This just makes it harder for REAL victims to come forward and be taken seriously. I think this girl should be punished for filing a false report and for alarming our community for no reason.

ResD- I agree. She's crying wolf for real victims. I thought she could be punished for filing a false report? Either way she should be.

obviously, this girl is a white girl. If she had been a person of color, she would be in jail. this is how our criminal and judicial systems work, so objective.

Wait a minute you haters! First, how dare you try to label this story with a skin color. Secondly, how do you know that this girl recanted her story because it didn't happen? Were you there? Do you think there might be a slight chance that this girl recanted because of the stress or stigma that comes with having to TELL the story and deal with police, her family and maybe her friends?

Perhaps she felt she had to recant because those involved in attacking her made it more personal by threatening her. Unless you were there, don't be so quick to judge her. If she flat out lied about everything then she will have to live with the concequences, regardless of her skin color.

You don't know what happened, and God forbid you should EVER be put in that type of situation.

Very well said, Laneelee!

@laneelee and @Ditto -

She didn't just recant her story - it was fabricated :

"The important thing is that there (are) not two men out there attacking women."

jupiterk, if you want to keep trivializing real race issues, keep on going. It's pretty lame that people need to inject racism where it's clearly not relevant.

It just devalues MLK and others who actually experienced REAL racism.

As I've said before, jupiterk is simply a blending of stupid + jerk.

@ Steve: Wylie added, "The important thing is that there (are) not two men out there attacking women." These are the MVPD words, not the girl who recanted her story. Recant means to 'withdraw'. Just because she withdrew her statement, doesn't mean it didn't happen. But I'm not saying it did, and I'm not saying it didn't. I'm saying that unless you have proof, don't judge.
