Kids get hands-on with nature

Fifth-graders from Huff Elementary and a handful from a Crittenden Middle School combination class spent a recent week at a science camp in the hills of Cupertino. "It's a really eye-opening experience for them," one Huff teacher said.

I think this is funded in a large part by PTA fundraisers and the educational foundation (MVEF) for all of the District. This is a great program to get kids connected to the Real World and how it connects to 'stuff in school books'. It's actually much more interesting to see it in person (Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass poem on 'the learned astronomer) than just in
