Rail authority CEO to resign

California's quest to build the nation's first high-speed rail took another unexpected twist Thursday when the the man charged with leading the project announced he will resign in two months. Roelof van Ark, who was appointed to lead the California High-Speed Rail Authority in May 2010, announced his resignation at Thursday's meeting of the rail authority's board of directors.

I don't know all the ins and outs of the California High-Speed Rail Authority saga. But it would be sad if we don't have enough collective foresight to link the two largest population centers in the most populous state in the US with a good rail connection.

...which would require subsidies forever, and which one really good earthquake could completely destroy.

Not as sad as the reason for the Rail Authority CEO's for stepping down.

Boohoo.

Anyone want to take bets he goes back into the business of selling trains, or better yet, consults with other public agencies to push for more big rail projects?
