Drop Off for light rail on Sunday mornings?
Around Town, posted by Driver, a resident of another community, on Jun 8, 2008 at 12:33 pm

I frequently have to drop off a passenger for the light rail on Sunday mornings while the farmers' market is in full swing. I drive Southbound down Central and turn right on Castro and then left and left to get to the light rail. Normally I would drive into the parking lot and drop off/wait to pick up but when the farmers' market is there I can't. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to either drop off safely or wait for a couple of minutes if I am waiting for the train. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, it takes so long to go up Castro and around the block, it would be much easier if I could pull up without crossing the tracks, but there is no way to do that, and it has caused us to miss the train taking 5 mins to go round the block. Once again, anyone with better ideas?

Thanks in advance.

My 2 cents.... Why don't you just turn left on Moffett and drop your passenger off in front of the Adobe bldg? Then they could just walk across Central to the train station. Then you'd avoid all the Farmer's Market traffic.

You could consider going a little further down to the Evelyn or Whisman stations. Evelyn has parking across the street from the LR tracks and Whisman may be a bit further out of your way, but it avoids the Caltrain tracks and Castro Street.

Certainly not as convenient as the main MV station, but gets you away from the farmers' market congestion...

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.

I have a further question for you. Where is a good place to park for the day on Sunday if I wanted to go on the Light Rail for a day excursion? I presume the station lot is completely taken up and all the garages are 2 hours only.

Are there public restrooms available near the Light Rail Station

in Mountain View? I couldn't find any there. If you want people to

ride public transportation and leave their cars home, then you have to

provide restrooms facilities at the transit stations. Some people come a long way to get here using a combination of trains and buses. How about doing something with the restored railroad building which has

been vacant for a long time. A restroom there plus a "snack shack" would

be fantastic and appreciated. Think about it...

Best suggestion is the Subway restaurant across the road. Subway comes under the heading of healthy snacks and has a restroom for customers.

Similar Problem...With Cal Train rideship at an all time high, the CalTrain lots are full at mid day. Where would one park if they were planning a mid day weekday CalTrain ride? All of the lots are two hour only

Suggestion to Driver for Sunday parking... there are some parking spaces on Evelyn Ave, west of Castro, that front the Caltrain tracks. I don't know how full these get with the farmers' market.

Also, I believe that the 2 hr limits for city lots and street parking are not enforced on the weekends, but check the signs to be sure.

For a mid day weekday trip, I think there is some street parking on Evelyn or nearby that has 4 or 6 hr limits, which may work for a weekday afternoon. Sometimes I've had to use those for travel to Giants games.
