William Ware's death spurs call for California Street revamp

The death of William Ware — hit by a speeding car while waiting at a California Street bus stop on June 21 — caused shock in a neighborhood where some are now calling for major traffic calming measures.

I wish you luck in your endeavors, Mr. Mullen. Part of the reason I chose to live in a downtown neighborhood many years ago was that it is possible to get things done without getting in a car. But I would never venture out on my bike on the streets mentioned, as i am not a very confident rider. I actually don't see that many cars on California either, so I hope the city can make this populated neighborhood safer. Likewise, it is sad that such a serious accident and resulting death would be required in order to bring attention to the situation.
