Time to slow down on California Street
Around Town, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Sep 11, 2012 at 9:38 am

Often it takes a traumatic event to bring an otherwise ignored problem to light, and that is certainly the case in the tragic death of William Ware, who was hit and killed by a speeding car June 21 while waiting for a bus on California Street near Escuela Avenue.

That's about 3 miles away. Hardly "just a block"

Pedestrians and cyclist crossing over the medians on El Camino get hit all the time. The View just chooses not to run the stories

Center turn lane will do nothing to stop some clown from driving double the speed limit.

Guess someone else did the heavy lifting so the Voice decided to chime in on THEIR ideas. You may now go back to ignoring all the people hit by cars on El Camino between San Antonio and 237.

Drivers are much more likely to drive 50mph on a 35mph street than on a 25mph street. There is no reason for a residential street like California St to have a speed limit of more than 25mph. Get it done before someone else gets killed.
