Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Mountain View Voice Online, on Jul 1, 2008 at 7:57 am

As promised, Los Altos City Council member David Casas came to the local high school district Monday to once again pitch his idea for having the school board's meetings televised.

It seems odd to me that the board would resist televising their meetings. If the expense issue can be overcome, why not? We can't all leave our homes to attend the meetings, but perhaps some can view the meetings on tv. Isn't public involvement and feedback considered to be of value to this board? And the argument that televising the meetings may cause the board members to bicker is simply ridiculous--they are grown-ups, with some amount of self control, aren't they?

Another board to add to the list of those which televise their meetings is Palo Alto, by the way.

The fact that PA's school district broadcasts their meetings is the strongest endorsement I've heard against ours doing same.

I'm fairly neutral on the subject, but it seems to me that if you dont care enough about the schools to get off your couch, how much should the board care about your opinion?

it's obvious these people are thinking of themselves and their own insecurities first, and the conveniences of the public second. and with every hollow explanation, they are further embarrassing themselves. you kinda wonder what other issues directly connected to our kids they are also being short-sighted on?
