Mavericks returns to Half Moon Bay this weekend

Surf's up this weekend off the coast of Half Moon Bay, as officials have declared Sunday game day for the Mavericks Invitational, a world-renowned big-wave surf contest.

Well, I posted the following comment to this article on the Palo Alto Online news when it showed up there, didn't carry over, so here we go again...

The hyperlink is wrong and points to an old website for the 2009-10 event.

The correct web address is: www.mavericksinvitational.com

Access to the bluffs and beach at Pillar Point will be denied by local authorities due to safety and environmental concerns.

There will be a media village set up in the field behind the Oceano Hotel at Princeton Harbor (Capistrano Way and PCH) where video will be streamed live (I believe general admission is $20).

The live action will also be streamed at the aforementioned website for free. Preliminary heats start at 8am.

They should mow down the rock hazards at Mavericks, they are really a HAZARD to the surfers and boats. Army Corp of Engineers could do the job nicely.
