Please stop expanding YOUR definition Silicon Valley. I believe Silicon Valley (SV) is identifiable as Santa Clara County. If you continue try to expand SV you will have California, then USA, then North America and finally the planet and you will have distorted the truth.

The Mountain View Voice and others aren't afraid to use the term "Bay Area". I guess if you call yourself "Silicon Valley ..." you would rather change the definition of Silicon Valley than your own name.

The article does show some interesting numbers. Thumbs up to Kenrick.

Good to see that employment is rising in the Bay Area! The shrinking middle class is a worrying trend, but I guess we are seeing that all over the nation. Thanks for an interesting article!

Are the people being hired, local, from within SV? Or are they being imported in?

The name Silicon Valley was created to describe the part of the Bay Area where high tech jobs were in greatest concentration. When it was coined, it was centered around Palo Alto, Mountain View and Sunnyvale, not all of Santa Clara County per se.

In the 40 years since, tech jobs first spread south to North San Jose, east to Fremont and north to Redwood City. Now, a significant number of high tech companies are choosing San Francisco: Salesforce.com and Twitter, for example. Silicon Valley is not strictly Santa Clara Valley anymore.
