Teens name center "The View"

Teens on the city's Youth Advisory Committee got their way on Tuesday when the City Council voted to approve their favored name for a new teen center on Escuela Avenue.

Change the name of the city government's paper, I'd be OK with that. My late wife Kate Wakerly, its first editor over 20 years ago, would sometimes jokingly refer to it as "Pravda" :) . But no offense, I don't think you can actually accuse The View of carrying propaganda.

I see no conflict between the The View (teen center), The View (City of Mountain View official newsletter), and The View (TV show). Of course, I don't have a strong interest in any of the three, so i'm probably the wrong person to ask.

The name is perfect, for exactly the reason that Mr. Siegel opposes it. Teenagers are supposed to have secrets that are inscrutable for adults. The teenagers will make "The View" mean something, and whatever it comes to mean will be entirely their own creation and, perhaps, their own secret.
