With the mid-year state budget threatening to take more than $1 million from both local school districts, high school trustees asked during their meeting this week if it is time to start exploring possible cuts.

What am I missing here? Any one, or any business, in their right mind who senses such drastic cuts coming would take immediate action now! This is the typical whining game these ditricts play.

Too bad we can't base teacher salaries on needs. As an older teacher I've got no college or house payments and could, quite honestly, live on half my salary. Alas, Union Negotiators will not let me even discuss a cut with my district :(

Jim, if you can live off half your salary you are always welcome to donate the other half to the schools. Meanwhile, there are plenty of teachers that need the money. Plus, how do you expect to attract quality teachers on low pay. Geez, I can't believe I'm actually responding to your silly comment.

Silly comment? Last year I gave nearly $15,000 of my salary away -- half to Catholic Charities and half to the American Red Cross. I did not take an exemption on my income tax either. I suppose this makes me a socialist but, in all honestly, I've got more then I need and so many don't . . . . . . .
