In his 43rd year at Menlo-Atherton, Mr. Weaver is a legend. A Stanford University graduate with a BA in history and masters in education, he has taught Western Civilization and United States History to generations of students. As head of the history department in the 1970’s, he succeeded in getting the Advanced Placement designation for the US History course so popular today. “Mr. Weaver has been an unforgettable influence on my life. He is an extraordinary teacher and human being. A real hero,” says Steve Westly, M-A class of 1974, and former California state controller. “Mr. Weaver is one of those teachers a student never forgets. He’s upbeat, devoted to teaching, and an incomparable role model,” agrees Kelly Wright, M-A class of 2005.

To recognize his years of teaching and his unrivaled contributions to Menlo-Atherton, the Foundation for the Future has launched the Richard Weaver Social Studies Fund. The Fund seeks donations to continue the exceptional work of teachers like Mr. Weaver, and to support the Social Studies Department at M-A. If you are a former student or the parent of one of his students, please help honor Mr. Weaver by mailing your check to the M-A Foundation for the Future, P.O. Box 1228, Atherton, CA 94026. Or, visit the Foundation’s website to learn more: Web Link.
