After 17 years, Alza Corp. is pulling up stakes

Last October, Mountain View officials and community members gathered in Alza Corporation's lobby to celebrate a groundbreaking partnership with the city. Harnessing methane gas from the landfill under Shoreline Park, Alza planned to generate power for its corporate office, bringing in revenue for the city and helping the environment for years to come.

the article fails to mention anything about why or what motivates the move, or where the workers who stay with the company are relocating to.

It says pretty clearly that 600 are getting laid off-- that has to be all or most at that site

"Alza will have no presence in Mountain View after next year," said Nancy Noe, government relations director.

Plus, other stories in mainstream media and finance pages have talked about J&J laying off folks and/or sending them to Florida for some time now.
