Un-Dahn
Editor's Desk, posted by Don Frances, Mountain View Voice Editor, on Aug 25, 2009 at 7:26 pm

NOT LONG ago I wrote about Dahn Yoga, and the fact that Mayor Margaret Abe-Koga had declared an official "Brain Education Day" in honor of ... well, some kind of pie-in-the-sky philosophy advocated by the people who run Dahn Yoga.

Now it looks like neither the mayor nor I should have given Dahn Yoga this publicity.

According to an August article in Forbes magazine, 27 former Dahn practitioners filed suit against the company in May, "claiming the group subjected them to psychological manipulation and fraudulently induced them to spend thousands of dollars on Dahn yoga classes and retreats."

The accusations against this quasi-yoga chain are extreme: "The punishing techniques, they say, included forced isolation from friends and families, exercises like bowing 3,000 times all night long without breaks, disciplining members by sticking their heads in the toilet and making them lick other members' feet, and having them hold certain poses, like the push-up position, for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. On top of those charges, the suit alleges that Ilchi Lee, the 57-year-old Korean founder of Dahn and its spiritual leader, sexually preyed on young female disciples."

Naturally, Lee and the Dahn people deny all these charges. But I think the mayor ought to rescind "Brain Education Day" all the same.

This says something about the mayor for sure, I'm just not so sure it's all that flattering. Big surprise.

They are gone from their location in the Blossom Valley shopping center. Nothing but an empty shell of retail space there. Hoping a nice bakery moves in. Baked goods are soul soothing too.

The City and I as Mayor, received numerous requests for certificates of recognition every week. They range from recognitions of awards received by individuals and organizations, special celebrations and even 80th birthdays. We do our best to honor the requests as well as research the organizations and individuals making the requests, but we may not always learn complete backgrounds of the requestors. Such was the case in this situation. I appreciate Don Frances bringing this to our attention.

I applaud and honor the mayor’s sharp eyes that spotted this vile cult organization. It’s pretty easy to find the more information about this site – visit rickross.org and search for “Ilchi” or “dahn” and you will find abundant information. Also NoDahnCult.Com and Web Link is a good resource to find out about this shady cult.
