Start of school ushers in big changes

As students at Mountain View and Los Altos high schools were busy adjusting to their new class schedules and evaluating each others' back-to-school outfits, their teachers were preoccupied with adjustments and evaluations of another kind.

That's good they have AP Computer Science, but do they have computer programming apart from AP? Computing really needs to be part of the core curriculum today (www.computinginthecore.org).

Its good to see the introduction of some vocational courses in addition to the expansion of academic classes.

Will there be some sort of way to measure and help students who could benefit from some guidance in social behavior though?!! Not everyone receives this at home, and if a student is lagging behind in this important aspect of life, it would be a shame to over look that.

"Classes taught in a similar fashion" is most likely a good idea; however, I hope that will mean that there is still room for individual teachers to exhibit and practice their individuality, their unique talents. Not everyone is the same.

Good luck to the "new" school district. May it thrive.
