For several decades, Eileen and Beto Telleria's backyard has been a respite from their daily stresses, a Japanese garden with a heavy stone bench, a pool for their two ducks, and as its centerpiece, a majestic plum tree with a trunk shaped like a human torso. When PG&E told them the yard would have to be stripped and their trees removed because a major gas pipeline runs underneath, Eileen said it was so upsetting for her and her husband, a PG&E representative began crying as well

I am also a resident with the PG&E easement (pipeline) in my backyard. I've lived with it for almost 50 years and have nothing to worry about. It doesn't bother me that it's there. The one thing I didn't like, years ago was that we couldn't have a sunken swimming pool. As far as I figure the pipe can't be moved for several reasons. *its in great shape and has been certified OK to be used. *there is really no place it can be moved to as other people would be upset with getting it near them. *the traffic nightmare on middle field and Moffett would be nasty. *the Hetch Hetchy water system going under Middlefield & Moffett is probably why the pipe is routed the way it is. *if it were to be moved, other people with 4000+ miles of gas pipeline in their backyard would also want it moved and that would be a headache. *if the pipe got moved I would think all our house gas lines would have to be re-arranged and that would cause a lot of digging up..
My common sense tells me to work with PG&E and get the best new back yard you can with pergolas and anything else to give you a nice new place to enjoy the evening. PG&E is bending over backwards to please us.
