Drivers going to the pump throughout the Bay Area will be paying less to fill up their tanks in the next couple weeks, an American Automobile Association Northern California spokeswoman said.

Yeah, sure, they are falling like there is no bottom. I feel like drinking and taking shower in it at these prices. Let me know when it goes to $1.10, then I would know that it is really cheap.

The government has little control over gas prices. If gas prices get too low in California, the oil companies will just export gas to foreign countries where they can get higher prices. Even gas that is refined in the Bay Area regularly gets shipped out to Central America or Asia.

The article says that the Bay Area average is $3.98 and the highest prices are in SF with an average of $3.96. This doesn't seem to make sense since the overall average ought to lie between the highest and lowest subaverages.
