The Stevens Creek Trail is heavily used by bicyclists commuting to work. Extending it into Cupertino will help even more commuters. Every bicycle commuter is one less car on the road. This is a real cheap investment into our transportation infrastructure. How much money would the city have to spend for an equivalent distance of automobile freeway?

I'm all for connecting Mountain View to Cupertino. However, if the feasibility study shows that the connection needs to be done on the SunnyVale side, I hope the City will re-consider the MV High extension. As in that case, it wouldn't be much more than an expensive trailhead (and quite frivolous as the existing Sleepy Avenue trailhead is not that far and pretty safe to bike to from MVHS).

It might be only about 0.7 miles from Sleeper Avenue to Mountain View High School, but during high school start, lunch and dismissal times, those streets are not that safe. There is a great deal of high school cut-through traffic in this neighborhood that creates the hazard.
Anyhow, it is likely the a study will show that the best route for the trail will be to pick up from where Mountain View plans to cross to the high school - so the bridge will be the only expense to be saved - granted that isn't cheap.
