$2 million "ransom" for city to keep downtown tax district

When City Council members return from summer break in September they will have to decide whether to pay $2 million a year to keep the downtown's redevelopment funding or be forced to turn over as much as $5 million a year in revenue to other local services.

And good for that. A shame our own city managers don't see those items as being as important as downtown celebrations drawing in out-of-towners and building upon every square foot of open space in Mountain View with multi-story constructs. Somewhere, at some point, priorities got twisted around backwards.


As far as civic responsibilities go, it's "People" over "Profits", not the other way around. And I mean people of M.V., not business owners who may not even live here.
