With some help from the metal-cutting abilities of the “jaws of life,” firefighters carefully extracted a man from his Toyota sedan on Wednesday morning after his car was pushed into a tree by large pickup truck on El Camino Real.

Firefighters arrived at around 9:30 a.m. to find a black Toyota sedan’s front end up against a street tree with a large Chevrolet Pickup sitting on its trunk lid. The incident occurred in front of A1 Foreign Auto near Pettis Avenue.

The driver of the Toyota sedan appeared to be alive as he was carefully placed on a stretcher.

“Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate one person from one of the cars and the patient was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries,” wrote fire department spokesperson Jaime Garrett in an email.

Police spokesperson Liz Wylie said the driver of the pickup truck was not arrested and “no alcohol or drugs were involved in this crash.” An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

No one else was involved in the crash. A third vehicle, an unoccupied pickup truck parked on the street, was pushed several yards by the two cars.

Northbound morning traffic merged into one lane as a result of the collision.

  1. He was not arrested? Wow, he or she must be an illegal immigrant. Only the illegal immigrants have more rights than the legal resident or citizen of this country. or the driver may be related to the police dept guy or a city council member. mmm..Who else it can be?

  2. @jupiterk, are you stupid? people get in accidents every day and dont get arrested, this was a bad accident….thats it. if drugs or alcohol are factors then they are arrested, if he or she was on a cell phone they are ticketed. and as for your illegal immigrant comment let me ask you….are you stupid? the united states has deported almost 500,000 immigrants this year- you should really shove your keyboard up your a**.

  3. Sean’s redacted comment looks like a posting on China Daily.

I [Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language] this newspaper!

  4. Seriously??? They get a ticket if they were on their cellphone when they either ran over a child or plowed into another car??? And what – you think those dumb@sses actually ADMIT to being on a cellphone while driving, thereby turning their vehicle into an uncontrolled 3,000 lb. weapon that is travelling at a high enough speed to kill anyone it hits??? THAT type of mindset runs rampant among the 20-30 year olds. The 1st ticket for driving while on a hand-held cellphone OUGHT to run about $1,000.00 and should NOT be allowed to be dismissed by taking one of those silly@ss online courses. 2nd ticket = lose your license (NO EXCEPTIONS) for a year. THAT should seriously reduce WRECKS (they are NOT accidents if they’re caused by some selfish @-hole talking on a cellphone while driving) in the future.

  5. Where does it say the driver was on his cellphone? It’s not like car accidents never occured before the invention of the cell phone.
