I have lived in the Jackson Park area since 1993. Lately, I hesitate to open the Voice to find news about what the City Council is planning to do to my neighborhood next. First it was building more apartments on Steirlin, then it was closing access to Central Expressway, the next idea was to put in a some type of bike path to make it easier for those to bike from the train station to North Bayshore. Now, there is talk about increasing the bus traffic. I have enough trouble entering traffic from my driveway in the morning from Central Avenue and Stierlin. I find it impossible to go from my home to 101 via Shoreline; mainly Monday through Wednesdays. I am finding that I am not the only one that has had to find an alternate route to catch 101 going North by going through other neighborhoods. I have found that buses are finding alternative routes to North Bayshore via Middlefield to Rengstorf and San Antonio because Shoreline is backed up in the morning beyond Montecito at times. We do not need additional traffic in the Jackson Park area or north Shoreline.

What's needed is to widen Shoreline to 3 lanes per direction throughout its length. Currently the 3 lanes go from El Camino to Central Expressway and then funnel down to 2 for the remainder of the distance to 101. The plan was always to make this into a wider road and the development of the office park north of 101 has just made this all the more important. Restricting it to a bus only lane is a crazy idea because there can never be sufficient volume of buses to make that advantageous. First get the lane, some more buses, and then consider whether to dedicate a lane to buses.
Also, Shoreline should be widened to 3 lanes all the way up to the Amphitheatre parking (e.g. the park) because traffic on concert days has been a problem FOREVER. Now those woes will get worse and the office worker traffic will be bad on the other days unless the road is widened to 6 lanes.
