Users of Google's Chinese search engine faced technical difficulties today as the Chinese government accused Google of spreading pornography, the Associated Press reports.
"We have found that the English version of Google.com has spread lots of pornographic, lewd and vulgar content, which is in serious violation of Chinese laws and regulations," Qin Gang, foreign ministry spokesman, reportedly said at a briefing. Authorities have "summoned representatives of Google.com in China and urged them to remove the content immediately."
Qin reportedly would not answer questions about whether the Chinese government, which operates the largest Internet content filtering system in the world, was responsible for blocking access to Google's China-based google.cn Web site and e-mail service on Thursday.
