Obituaries
Patricia Halla Nelson
Patricia Halla Nelson, a 58-year resident of Mountain View and former employee at NASA Ames, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 1. She was 89.
Nelson was a lifelong resident of Santa Clara County, born in Gilroy, raised in San Jose, and residing in Mountain View since 1948. She worked at NASA Ames for many years as a secretary. She was also a gourmet cook.
Although she had no children of her own, Nelson was known as "the grandma of the neighborhood."
Nelson was preceded in death by her brothers F. Robert Halla and Thomas Michael Halla, by her sister Dorothy Halla Schmidt, and by her husband of 58 years, Leonard V. Nelson. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, and by many loving great-nieces and great-nephews.
No services were announced.
Jorge Moura
Jorge Moura, a Korean War veteran and 20-year resident of Mountain View, died April 3 at the age of 74.
Born on Sept. 11, 1932 in Manhattan, NY, Moura married five times throughout his life. His first wife Sylvia gave birth to their son Andy, and passed away two years later. His second wife Ruth bore no children. His third wife Dorothy gave birth to Londa Lee and Zeva Louise. His fourth wife Vivian gave birth to Anthony Joseph. His fifth wife Loretta bore no children. All five women preceded Moura in death.
Moura is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Belinda and Felix Medrano, as well as numerous neices and nephews, grandchildren and friends.
A private memorial will be held.
Esther Gerszewski
Esther Gerszewski, a local resident for many years, died on April 8 at the age of 95.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Gerszewski graduated from the University of North Dakota and moved to California in 1937. She worked for a San Mateo school district as a registrar. She and her late husband, Anthony, were proud grandparents who enjoyed Airstream trailer rallies and participating in the St. Simon Catholic parish in Mountain View.
She is survived by her son Van and his wife Kay, her daughter Janet and her husband Bill, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at St. Simon Catholic Church in Mountain View. Memorial donations can be made to Villa Siena, 1855 Miramonte Ave., 94040.
