Editor's Desk: Jammie session
by Don Frances
NORMALLY, PAJAMA parties are held in the home, and involve young people. That's why the one being held this weekend at a local architectural firm is so great:
"For the past five years our firm, Spectrum Fine Homes, Inc., has hosted a Pajama Party as our annual holiday event," wrote Susan Davis. "We call this holiday open house a "pajama party" because our guests are asked to bring a pair of new PJs for a child, which we then donate to the Mountain View Community Services Agency."
Then Davis explained that she and her husband Bob, the owners of the firm, "wear PJs during the event, and frequently our guests show up in their jammies, too — making this a very casual, fun, and funny holiday event." On top of all that, the party "is open to the community."
Grownups in pajamas, hosting a holiday party at their own business, opening it to the public and serving a charitable cause — this is why I love America.
Davis added that she and her husband are 30-year residents of Mountain View, and have owned Spectrum Fine Homes — a residential remodeling firm focusing on green building — for almost 20 years.
The 5th Annual Pajama Party is this Sunday, Dec. 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. Spectrum is located at 188 S. Whisman Rd., Building A. Call (650) 960-2449 or visit www.spectrumfinehomes.com for more.
(By the way, there's a New Orleans/Katrina-relief component to all this, which I don't have room to go into. Visit www.lakewoodbeacon.org for more.)
The Davises hope to collect at least 100 pairs of pajamas this year, and Susan Davis said "We try to focus on the larger sizes as they are the ones in shortest supply." So come wearing pajamas (as opposed to whatever else it is you wear to bed) and carrying a pair as well.
