Car mogul rolls out museum proposal
Mountain View may house fleet of famed auto collector John Mozart

Mountain View may soon be home to a museum housing the internationally renowned car collection of John Mozart, city officials say.
Mozart, a resident of Los Altos Hills, is well-known to car enthusiasts, and frequently enters his cars — including classic Ferraris, Chevys and more obscure makes, such as the 1911 Pierce — into shows and classic car races.
The proposed car museum is slated for the 1300 block of Pear Avenue, near the Computer History Museum and Century 16 Cinemas, and would display a wide range of Mozart's extensive collection, including antiques, early racers, hot rods and custom cars, Mozart reported.
Architect Korth Sunseri Hagey of San Francisco designed the proposed museum, and preliminary plans show the building will be made from modern materials to give it an industrial look in order to fit in with the surrounding area.
The design was given a thumbs-up by the city's development design committee in late December, and a more detailed proposal is scheduled for later this year.
In addition to showcasing Mozart's car collection, the museum may also rotate collections from other national museums, Mozart reported.
Mozart made most of his fortune when he sold his import auto parts distribution company in the late 1970s. He currently owns a Palo Alto-based development company specializing in technology campuses and office buildings.
